I think it’s very important that children have access to books and to be taught to read well. Reading opens up the whole world to you. You can learn anything you want from a book. I’ve been looking for some charities that specialise in book giving to children and help in general:
Indigenous Literacy Foundation: http://www.indigenousliteracyfoundation.org.au/
Dymocks: http://dcc.gofundraise.com.au/
Cottage by the sea: http://cottagebythesea.com.au/
Australian Charities: http://www.auscharity.org/
Playing by the book: http://www.playingbythebook.net/2012/01/09/worldwide-list-of-readingliteracy-charities-2012/
Kids need to read: Co-started by Nathan Fillion from Firefly (watch him getting pushed into a pool. Pity he’s not shirtless): http://www.kidsneedtoread.org/
We give books: http://www.wegivebooks.org/give/partners
First Book: http://www.firstbook.org/
Give now: http://www.givenow.com.au/otherways/books
Give a book: http://www.giveabook.org.uk/give-to-a-child.html
Donation Town: http://www.donationtown.org/news/donate-books.html
You can always ask a charity if they want your unwanted books and other things. It’s better than throwing them out since it will probably end up in landfill. Why do that when someone could have it?

Hi, my list isn’t just of UK charities – in fact it has over 125 literacy / reading / book charities from around the world. Thanks for including it in your list.
I didn’t have time to look at all of them sorry but you’re welcome. I’m glad there are lots of people and charities out there who are willing to put children and reading and important things above money. People make the world go around, not money. We just have to decide what’s important and prioritise it.
